William F. Wechsler

Treasurer

William F. Wechsler is treasurer of the American Historical Association. He is a member of the finance committee and the investment subcommittee responsible for managing the AHA endowment. He is senior advisor, Middle East Programs, Atlantic Council.  Previously he was vice chairman of Capitol Peak Asset Management and managing director of Greenwich Associates, where he led the firm’s global asset management practice. He holds the chartered financial analyst designation and also the Series 7 and Series 63 securities licenses. Over the years Wechsler has also held multiple government national security positions, his most recent being deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and combatting terrorism. He has previously served on the staff of the National Security Council, at the Department of the Treasury, and on the Joint Staff. Mr. Wechsler is currently a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute, president of the Center on Illicit Networks and Transnational Organized Crime, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He has been published in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Foreign Affairs, and The National Interest, among others. Wechsler is a graduate of Cornell University and received a master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
