Affirming the AHA’s commitment to academic freedom of expression, the Council approved the following statement on June 5, 2016:

Whereas academic freedom of expression is essential to historical inquiry, the American Historical Association reaffirms its support for the American Association of University Professors’ 1940 Statement of Principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure.
