Learn about urban cultural landscapes and World Heritage through the example of the 2012 World Heritage City designation of Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea. Mechtild RösslerPhD., director, UNESCO Division for Heritage and World Heritage Centre, and Patricia M. O’DonnellFASLAAICP, F.US/ICOMOS, principal, Heritage Landscapes, explain how the 1073 World Heritage sites incorporate cultural landscapes as combined works of humanity  and nature to express the identity of a cosmopolitan city like Rio. This program is supported by the Darwina L. Neal Cultural Landscape Fund for adult programs focusing on cultural landscapes.
