We desire papers that examine any aspect of African studies and culture, from any time period, using any scholarly method.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Western news/entertainment media representations of Africa and/or African responses to Western representation
  • Comparative approaches to African and other cultures
  • Technology use in Africa
  • Social media and life in Africa, connections between Africa and other continents
  • Impact of (popular) culture on politics in Africa and politics of Africa in other places
  • Tourism/urbanization and culture in Africa
  • Geographical concepts concerning Africa
  • Cross-cultural influences among Africans and diaspora Africans and their descendants in politics, art, music etc.

To submit a paper, register at submissions.mpcaaca.org. Include a 250 word abstract or a panel proposal (abstracts and titles of each paper) and the name, affiliation, address, and email of each person. Specify special AV/scheduling needs when submitting. MPCA can provide projectors. Do not submit the same item to more than one Area.
