Historians Relief Fund

To assist un/underemployed historians who have been financially affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, the AHA has established $500 emergency grants that can be used to cover unexpected loss of income related to this crisis.


Only members of the Association are eligible to apply. The grants are intended for unemployed or underemployed historians.

Application Process

Log into your MY AHA account at historians.org/myaha and click “Available Application Forms” in the AHA Awards, Grants, and Jobs section. The application form requires:

  • Your contact information
  • Your current or most recent institutional affiliation(s)
  • Your current or most recent employment status

Supporting documents and letters of recommendation are NOT required for these grants.

Applications are due August 31, and recipients will be selected by lottery. Recipients will be notified the first week of September, and the AHA will distribute funds within two weeks of notification. Payments will be made by direct deposit or PayPal, and funds are unrestricted without requirement for receipts.

The AHA will continue to solicit donations to the Historians Relief Fund and will hold an additional lottery selection in late November pending the availability of funds. If you are not selected in the September lottery your application will be held over for the November drawing; if your employment situation changes so that you become ineligible, please let us know.
