The American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies (AISLS) announces the continuation of its annual fellowship competition. AISLS fellowships support two to nine months of research in Sri Lanka by US citizens who already hold a PhD or the equivalent at the time they begin their fellowship tenure. This program is funded by a grant from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the US State Department.

Both specialists and non-specialists on Sri Lanka are encouraged to apply. In past competitions, about one half of all awards have gone to scholars with little or no experience in Sri Lanka.

Projects in all fields in the social sciences and humanities are eligible. Proposals in other areas that contribute to the understanding of Sri Lankan history, culture, or society are also invited.

The deadline is December 1, 2015. Complete details, including application materials, are available on the AISLS website at http://www.aisls.org/grants/aisls-fellowship-program/.
