The History Department of the University of Utah will host a two-day symposium entitled “New Scholarship on the Black Atlantic” on October 2-3, 2015. We welcome proposals for papers that address transnational connections and diasporic identities from scholars who enter the study of the Black Atlantic from a variety of geographical locations, including Africa, the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean. Although we encourage those working in an interdisciplinary mode to apply, preference will be given to scholars whose primary training is in History. This symposium is intended to provide a forum for emerging scholars of Black Atlantic History to engage with each other and thus priority will be given to PhD candidates in the final stages of finishing their dissertations and those who have received their PhDs within the last three years.

Airfare from within the USA or Canada, accommodation, and most meals will be paid for by the University of Utah.

Please fill out the submission form by following this link: https://humutah.co1.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_8tXxw0EYThcMml7

Applicants will be asked to submit the following: a 500 word abstract for a 20 minute presentation; a CV; a 1000-1500 word description of the longer project of which the paper is a part that includes a timeline for its completion.

For full consideration complete proposals must be received by May 15, 2015.
