Call For Proposals--Representing WWI: Perspectives at the Centenary October 31st - November 2nd, 2014 Harbourfront Centre Toronto, Canada Organized by the Humber School of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Participation with the International Festival of Authors DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS: April 7, 2014 The year 2014 marks the centenary of the beginning of World War I. Although primarily a European conflict, its impact was global and still resonates throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, affecting political and economic relationships, the humanities, social sciences, and the arts. This international conference, hosted by Humber's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the International Festival of Authors, will facilitate further discussion among scholars, researchers, and public intellectuals across a wide range of academic disciplines. We invite proposals for individual and panel presentations that may address but are not limited to the following topics: Cultural memory Empire and colonialism Nationalism and transnationalism Aboriginals and the war Women and the war The home front Global contexts Politics Propaganda Diplomacy Medical and psychological responses Economic responses and models Literary representations (fiction, poetry, graphic novels, etc.) Visual representations (painting, photography, film, etc.) All abstracts for proposed presentations should be submitted to http://www.humber.ca/liberalarts-ifoa by April 7, 2014.
