Accommodations and Rates

Update: Rooms at the Boston Park Plaza are still available at the AHA’s rates ($106 single, $116 double, and $20 each additional person) for the 125th Annual Meeting. To book a room you must call the Plaza at 1-800-225-2008. The AHA’s blocks of rooms at the Marriott, Sheraton, and Westin Copley Place Boston have all sold out.

Housing for the AHA Annual Meeting was open from September 15 through December 21, 2010 for the Sheraton Boston, and December 27, 2010 for the Westin Copley Place Boston and Boston Park Plaza.

For complete details, including suite inventory and rates at each hotel, connect to this document (PDF) or see this page:

Overview

  • The AHA has reserved substantial blocks of rooms at the Marriott (1,000 rooms now sold out) and the Sheraton (900 rooms now sold out).  Rates will be $110 single, $130 double, and $20 for each additional person.

  • The AHA also has a block of 550 rooms (now sold out) at the Westin Copley Place Boston ($115 single, $140 double, and $20 each additional person) and a block of 400 rooms at the Boston Park Plaza ($106 single, $116 double, and $20 each additional person).

All rooms are subject to city and state taxes, currently 14.45 percent per room, per night. Meeting rates are in effect three days before and after the January 6–9 meeting dates, and are for a limited number of rooms only at each property.  The hotel rates include a $1 per room, per night to assist the AHA in underwriting the costs of usage of the Hynes Convention Center.

Hotel Reservation Process for 2011:  For the 2011 meeting, the AHA has combined the registration and hotel reservation process. After preregistering for the meeting, attendees will receive an acknowledgment of preregistration that will include information on making a hotel reservation.  This confirmation will have a link to make a reservation via customized web site or by calling the housing service directly.  Only Annual Meeting attendees who have first completed the meeting registration process will be permitted to make hotel reservations at the AHA’s meeting rates, and the housing service will ask attendees to supply their badge number (which will be included in the meeting preregistration confirmation). The process is designed to ensure that the deeply discounted AHA meeting rates are reserved for those who support the Annual Meeting—its attendees and exhibitors—and not for tourists and others who want to book a low-priced room in Boston.

Ground Transportation

From Logan International Airport
Logan International Airport (BOS) serves the Greater Boston area, and is located four miles from downtown Boston.  It has four passenger terminals (A, B, C, and E), each with its own ticketing, baggage claim, and ground transportation facilities. The terminals are connected to the central parking garage by a walkway system. In all, there are 94 gates with contact jet bridges and nine regional jet gates at the airport and more than 40 airlines fly nonstop to more than 100 domestic and international destinations. The airport’s web site has a new “GetUthere” application that provides information on ground transportation options.

  • A taxi to the meeting hotels takes 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, with prices ranging from $18 to $35.

  • Rates for pay shuttles vary widely, based on destination, persons per van, and number of stops.  Generally, however, service from the airport to the downtown hotels range from $12 to $15 per person.

  • Public transit is available through the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA—referred to as the "T"). Passengers take the Blue Line (designated “Bowdoin”) to Government Center, transferring to the Green Line (designated “Kenmore”), exiting at Copley Station (for Marriott, Westin, and Park Plaza) or Hynes Convention Center/ICA Station (for Sheraton).  Trains run every 8 to twelve minutes, with a 20-minute ride to downtown Boston.  The train fare is $1.70 for the pre-bought MBTA CharlieCard, and $2 if purchased onboard.  The “T” starts operating at 5:30 a.m. and the last train leaves downtown Boston at 12:45 a.m.

From Amtrak:
Amtrak operates three stations in Boston, Back Bay at 145 Dartmouth Street, South Station at Atlantic Avenue and Summer Street, and North Station, at Legends Way and Causeway Street. All hotels are a short cab ride from either station, with the Back Bay station the nearest to the convention hotels.

Job Center

Job Center reservation forms are available here for downloading by institutions that will be interviewing in Boston. Suites and tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
