Join the VMHC for the inaugural History Matters Symposium, an event where historians, practitioners, and members of the public will gather to explore our shared past.

Featuring a full day of engaging presentations that highlight groundbreaking research into Virginia history around the theme of "Discovery," guests will have the opportunity to hear from 12 panels comprising nearly 40 experts from across the Commonwealth. This year's presenters will cover such varied topics as eighteenth-century Williamsburg's scientific community, the use of augmented reality to study the Civil War, the future of Richmond's Confederate monuments, first-hand accounts of Virginia's school desegregation movement, and many more. The schedule is included at the link provided.

In addition to compelling panel discussions, guests will have access to tailored museum experiences that highlight Virginia discoveries. Ending the day will be a special reception and keynote lecture from Colonial Williamsburg's Director of Archeology, Jack Gary.
