The American School of Classical Studies at Athens is pleased to announce a new scholarship specifically for High School teachers. The Fowler Merle-Smith Summer Scholarships provide a unique opportunity to participate in our summer programs, which have welcomed teachers for over 70 years.

High School teachers are eligible to apply for both our Summer Session and Summer Seminars:
1)The Summer Session is a 6-week intensive introduction to Greece from antiquity through the modern period. Participants are based at the ASCSA campus in central Athens, and from there the group travels throughout Greece, from the Peloponnesus in the south to Thessaloniki in the north, and even the island of Crete. The itinerary includes not only well-known archaeological sites and museums but also amazing places off the beaten track.
2) The Summer Seminars are 18-day on-site learning sessions designed for those who wish to study specific topics in Greece and to improve their understanding of the country’s landscape, history, literature, and culture. For summer 2020, the two seminars offered are “Aegean Networks of Technology” (June 8-26) and “The Northern Aegean: Macedon and Thrace” (July 2-20).

Each summer program is limited to 20 participants.

The scholarship covers all program fees. In addition, awardees receive a $2,000 stipend to help offset the cost of international travel. To apply for the scholarship, no extra forms are necessary. Once an application for the program is submitted, the applicant will automatically be assessed for a scholarship.
