Eliot Fellowship, Mount Desert Island, Maine

The Eliot Fellowship offers a $5,000 stipend to a scholar who will research and write two or more articles for Mount Desert Island Historical Society's annual magazine, Chebacco. The 2020 issue of the magazine will be devoted to the topic of the Maine Bicentennial, with a focus on Mount Desert Island as it was prior to statehood in 1820. We are looking for a historian who can conduct original research and write about it in a direct and clear style that will illuminate the past and engage our lay audience. The required time commitment is eight weeks of full-time work or an equivalent amount of part-time work, with all assignments to be completed within the calendar year 2018. Applicants who are graduate students or postgraduates will be considered for the position. To apply, send a cover letter, resume or c.v., and a sample of your writing via email to Tim Garrity at tim.garrity@mdihistory.org no later than December 31, 2017.
