One day Symposium: « Ruling Class – Political Class »

12th of May 2016, Université de Bourgogne Franche-Comté, Dijon

The goal of this study day is to reappraise the links that have existed between the ruling class and the political class throughout the twentieth century to better understand these recent transformations. We invite submissions which will focus on the period 1918-2014 whose main objective is to better clarify the relationships between ruling and political class. Possible topics could be:

- How has the link between the dominant status groups and the political class evolved? Does it still exist?

- How has the private financing of political activities influenced the relationship between the two groups (either through lobbying or campaign contributions)?

- Has the socio-cultural origins of politicians helped define such a link or prove its absence?

- How can the study of public policy be used to unveil the protean but longstanding power of the ruling class?

Papers should last 20 minutes in English or French. Please send proposals (500 words + title) followed by a short bio to marc.smith@u-bourgogne.fr and alix.meyer@u-bourgogne.fr by the 15th of January 2017.
