Thoreau Society Fellowship Announcement

The Thoreau Society Marjorie Harding Memorial Fellowship. 

Recipients will receive $1,000 towards travel and research at archives in the Greater-Boston area on Thoreau-related projects, also free attendance at Thoreau Society July 2017 Annual Gathering and Bicentennial Celebration in Concord MA.  Emerging and established scholars, as well as Thoreau enthusiasts, are eligible. Preference given to candidates who will use Thoreau Society’s Walter Harding Collection at the Thoreau Institute for at least part of the fellowship period, but applicants intending to use any Thoreau Society Collections or other Thoreau archives in the Greater-Boston area welcome to apply.  (Collections are described here: http://www.thoreausociety.org/research.) Candidates are also encouraged to present their work at the Annual Gathering during or following the fellowship period.  To apply, send an email to the fellowship committee chair, Ronald Hoag (hoagr@ecu.edu), with the following attachments:

  1. Current curriculum vitae or resume
  2. Project proposal (1,000 words) with description of project, statement explaining significance, and an indication of specific archives and collections to be consulted.
  3. Graduate students may submit letter of recommendation from faculty member familiar with student's work and proposed project.  (This letter is optional and can be emailed separately to the fellowship committee.)
