AHA member Stephen (Univ. of Sioux Falls) was featured on the South Dakota Public Broadcasting radio show In The Moment for a discussion on the South Dakota Department of Education’s controversial revisions to the state’s draft K–12 social studies learning standards. Jackson, a member of South Dakota’s 2021 Social Studies Work Group, also wrote about the partisan politics that encumbered these revisions for Perspectives on History, describing the process as“a series of unprecedented actions by state officials designed to affect the outcome of the social studies revision process” that resulted in“standards that lack basic features of a rigorous social studies curriculum.”
