A New 'Social Question' or 'Crisis as Usual'?

The 2014 edition of the Annual Seminar takes place from the 4th to the 6th of June. The seminars theme is ‘A New Social Question or Crisis as Usual?’ and is dedicated to a better understanding of the conditions and mechanisms of the normative evaluation of inequality as well as mechanisms of crises. Social inequalities, injustices and crises have always been major topics of historical and sociological research, and they have been back on the agenda of public and scientific debates since the beginning of the latest financial crisis, if not longer. However, a very important question remains unanswered: under what conditions do social inequalities become an issue of scientific consideration, public attention, protest or political intervention? These are the central questions adressed by the seminar in order to achieve a better understanding of the involved social mechanisms.
