John Beck is the author of the case study. Mr. Beck holds a Ph.D. in American history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has taught history for over twenty years, and his specialty is the history of the South. He is currently the chair of the General College at Vance-Granville Community College in Henderson, North Carolina. He has been involved in developing Web materials for several years. His most ambitious Web project was a collaborative effort with several colleagues that resulted in the Southern Culture Web course.
