Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media, George Mason University | Aug 3, 2021

Papers of the War Department presents a collection of more than 42,000 documents of the early US War Department which were long thought to be irretrievable but have been reconstructed through a painstaking research effort. War Department papers address Indian affairs, veteran affairs, naval affairs (until 1798), as well as militia and army topics. The site contains four teaching modules for high school and undergraduate use, as well as opportunities to participate in document transcription.
