Mack Thompson was executive director of the American Historical Association from 1974–81. He taught at the University of California, Riverside, and served as a professor and dean, retiring as professor emeritus in 1977. He earned his PhD from Brown University in 1955 with the dissertation, “Moses Brown, a Man of Public Responsibility.” Thompson passed away January 29, 2014.
