Cecily McCaffrey is an associate professor of history at Willamette University and currently serves as history department chair. She teaches East Asian history, offering courses that range from a survey of Silk Road history in the 7th–14th centuries to a seminar on the historiography of the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966–76). Her research focuses on popular resistance and state-society relations in late imperial China. Cecily’s interest in the Tuning project is closely related to developments on the Willamette campus: the university administration is in the process of refining her assessment regimen; the College of Liberal Arts is revising the General Education curriculum; and the history department is revising the requirements for the major. The Tuning conversation is salient to all of these initiatives.
