Boyd C. Shafer served as executive secretary of the American Historical Association from 1953–63. He taught at the University of Arizona, and served as a professor and chair of the history department, retiring as professor emeritus. He earned his PhD from the University of Iowa in 1932 with the dissertation, “The Pamphlet Literature at the Outbreak of the French Revolution” Shafer passed away February 10, 1992.
