July in Washington, DC, is always hot and humid. This year has been even worse than usual. So AHA meetings director Debbie Doyle and I decided to set our minds to January, and visit our 2025 conference venue, New York City. While thinking about January didn’t help us much with the summer heat, it did provide an opportunity to visit our conference hotels, the Hilton and Sheraton ten blocks north of Times Square. I quickly remembered how easy it is to get the subway from Penn Station, and we checked out the deli that sits directly in between. And spent some time walking the hotels in addition to meeting with the chairs of the AHA 2025 local arrangements committee, Nicole Mahoney (Iona Univ.) and Nike Nivar Ortiz (ACLS).
The exciting program will include an opening plenary drawing on the 100th anniversary of Alain Locke’s influential compilation of essays on “The New Negro,” and another on Ken Burns’ forthcoming film on the American Revolution. Look for the program on our website this fall and soon after in your mailbox. Registration will open in September. You are not likely to find rooms at these or comparable NYC hotels for $214 anytime again.
I look forward to seeing you in New York in January.
