The AHA has been advocating for strong history and social studies education standards in Texas, with senior program analyst Julia Brookins representing the Association in testimony before the State Board of Education (SBOE). The Liberty Hill Independent quoted Brookins’ testimony in their coverage of the current Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) revisions, which were approved by the SBOE despite controversy around glaring omissions and apparent biases in the learning standards. Brookins also spoke to the Austin Chronicle about issues with the TEKS revisions, from the level of education rigor to the ideological aims of the standards.
