Event Description

Dr. Chase Castle is a Historian of Music based at the University of Delaware. In an effort to understand what life in 19th century America was actually like, Dr. Castle has selected three classic 19th century American folk songs associated with different parts of the U.S. He will play a recorded audio of each song and then explain what the song tells us about the hopes, aspirations and fears of average Americans during this time. Following this 40-to-45-minute presentation, Dr. Castle will do a 20-minute Q & A with members of the audience.
