Maria manages the finances of AHA, both operating and strategic. She oversees the day-to-day workings of the business office, financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, and compliance. Maria is the staff liaison for the Finance and Investment Committees, as well as the outside auditors.

Prior to coming to AHA, Maria served as CFO for the American Association of Immunologists. Her more than 25 years of financial management experience includes both other not-for-profit organizations and for-profit work, mainly in broadcasting. She was the Acting Controller at The Brookings Institution and was the Director of Network Accounting at the ABC TV Washington, DC news bureau.

Maria is a CGMA and a CPA in Maryland. She holds a BA in English Writing from the University of Pittsburgh and an MS in Accounting from American University.
