Simeon E. Baldwin (1840–1927) made his career as a jurist. He graduated from Yale in 1861, and subsequently taught at the Yale Law School from 1869 to 1919. At the time of his presidency he was chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court and a past president of the American Bar Association.
