Conyers Read was teaching at the University of Pennsylvania at the time of his presidency. He authored such notable works as Mr. Secretary Walsingham and the Policy of Queen Elizabeth (3 vol., 1925), The Tudors (1936), Mr. Secretary Cecil and the Foreign Policy of Queen Elizabeth (1955), and Bibliography of British History, Tudor Period, 1485-1602 (2nd ed., 1959).
