AHA Reads Media Toolkit
The AHA has developed a media toolkit for members of the press and organizations interested in sharing the challenge with their constituencies. You are welcome to adapt our template for articles and email marketing. We also encourage you to share the AHA Reads Twitter card and bingo cards for adults and children.
Follow along with #AHAReads on social media. Please contact Laura Ansley with any questions about the AHA Reads challenge.
Headline/subject: American Historical Association Launches Summer Reading Challenge
The American Historical Association is launching the second annual AHA Summer Reading Challenge (AHA Reads) and encourages participation from those interested in history. In our busy lives, it can be difficult to find time to read for fun—or to read at all. But reading about the past and discussing history with family, friends, and colleagues can be both a fun and educational experience.
Participants complete a row on the bingo card (three reading tasks) in the months of June, July, and August. These tasks encourage you to read widely. For these tasks, we define “a history” as nonfiction of any length—a book, an article, a chapter. And you can fulfill these tasks however you’d like. You define for yourself the parameters of a you’ve had too long, a place you know little about, or your background.
The AHA encourages participants to post about what they’re reading for this challenge on social media using the hashtag #AHAReads. Please contact info@historians.org with any questions about AHA Reads or the work of the AHA. To learn more about becoming an AHA member, visit our website.
Founded in 1884 and incorporated by Congress in 1889 for the promotion of historical studies, the American Historical Association provides leadership for the discipline and promotes the critical role of historical thinking in public life. The Association defends academic freedom, develops professional standards, supports innovative scholarship and teaching, and helps to sustain and enhance the work of historians. As the largest membership association of professional historians in the world (over 11,000 members), the AHA serves historians in a wide variety of professions and represents every historical era and geographical area.

AHA Reads
The AHA presents the second annual Summer Reading Challenge. To complete the challenge, participants complete a row on the bingo card (three reading tasks) in the months of June, July, and August. These tasks encourage you to read widely—outside your field, your areas of expertise, and your personal experiences.
