Philippa Levine holds the Mary Helen Thompson Centennial Professorship in the Humanities and is co-director of the British Studies Program at the University of Texas at Austin. She grew up in the United Kingdom, and came to the US in 1987. She taught at the University of Southern California before joining the UT faculty in 2010. She has also taught in her native Britain and in Australia. Her research and teaching interests include the British Empire; intersections of race and gender; science, medicine and society. She is the editor, most recently, of The Oxford Handbook of the History of Eugenics, and the author of The British Empire: Sunrise to Sunset.
