The 125th annual meeting was held January 6-9, 2011 in Boston with events scheduled in the John B. Hynes Memorial Veterans Convention Center, the Boston Marriott Copley Place (headquarters), and the Westin Copley Place Boston. Additional guestrooms and suites were available at the Sheraton Boston (co-headquarters) and the Boston Park Plaza. The meeting hotels were located in Boston’s Back Bay area, connected by climate-controlled walkways and two shopping malls, The Shops at Prudential Center and Copley Place Shopping Galleries, with more than 200 stores and restaurants. Many of the profession’s most distinguished members were present to deliver papers and more than 1,700 scholars participated in the four-day meeting. In addition, 57 specialized societies and organizations met in conjunction with the AHA. Each society held its own sessions, luncheons, or meetings, as well as some joint sessions with the Association. Barbara D. Metcalf, University of California, Davis emerita, delivered the presidential address the evening of January 7, and the Association’s book awards, Awards for Scholarly Distinction, the Troyer Steele Anderson Prize, the Eugene Asher Distinguished Teaching Award, the Beveridge Family Teaching Prize, the Raymond J. Cunningham Prize, Equity Awards, the Herbert Feis Award, the John E. O’Connor Film Award, the Nancy Lyman Roelker Mentorship Award, the Roy Rosenzweig Prize, and the 2010 Honorary Foreign Member were announced.
