Every day, millions of people visit museums and historic sites, research their family histories, volunteer with local historical societies, attend lectures, and seek out trustworthy historical perspectives on the issues shaping our world. This September, we have an opportunity to make that enthusiasm visible on a national scale.

The American Historical Association is proud to be one of the organizing partners behind We Want More History!a nationwide weekend of history programming taking place September 25–27. Across the country, museums, libraries, archives, colleges and universities, historic sites, community organizations, and others will host events that invite people to engage with history in their own communities.

Help make this effort a success! You can participate by:

  • Hosting an event. Organize a lecture, discussion, tour, or other public event, or incorporate the weekend into your teaching with a classroom activity or student assignment. Already have something planned that weekend? Add it to the We Want More History! calendar.
  • Sharing your expertise. Not organizing an event yourself? You can volunteer to participate in a program by connecting with organizations seeking historians through the initiative’s searchable map.

Learn How to Get Involved

Together, we’ll demonstrate what so many of us already know: people want more opportunities to engage with history and historians play an essential role in helping the public understand the past.
