Freedom: A Journal of Research in Africana Studies is a digital peer-reviewed periodical published annually by the W.E.B. Du Bois Center for the Study of the Black Experience (CSBE) at Bowie State University. This journal specializes in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research focusing on the lived experiences of the Black Diaspora.
Our editorial board invites you to submit manuscripts for research articles and book reviews. Research articles should be limited to between 3,000 and 5,000 words; book reviews should be limited to 1,500 words. All written submissions should follow the most recent Chicago Manual of Style. Submissions must have an abstract and keywords. Submissions should be emailed as a word document to duboiscenter@bowiestate.edu. Please remove your name, institutional affiliation, and any other identifying information from your complete manuscript for review. Please attach a brief bio as a separate file.
The deadline for manuscript submissions is November 30, 2026. Authors will be notified that their manuscripts have been accepted by January 31, 2027. Volume IV will be published in July 2027.
