Become a Summer Institute for Israel Studies Fellow

You are invited to apply for the Summer Institute for Israel Studies, the flagship program of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University. Our prestigious faculty fellowship will equip you with the knowledge, resources, and confidence to teach about Israel. The program will take place over 3 weeks in July 2027. Dates will be announced shortly. The Summer Institute for Israel Studies takes place every second year.
At the 2027 Summer Institute, you will:
– Design an Israel studies course in your discipline
– Learn from distinguished Israel studies scholars
– Examine the “contact zones” where identities, geographies, languages, communities, and cultures meet
– Discover how Israel’s social, political, and cultural dynamics take shape
– Join an international network of over 400 peers from 287 institutions worldwide
Open to faculty in all disciplines. Develop the knowledge, resources and confidence you need to design and teach an Israel studies course in your discipline.
About the Summer Institute:
The program begins with a 10-day residency at Brandeis University, where fellows study with world-class faculty from a broad range of Israel Studies disciplines. During this time, they develop a syllabus for a course, or course segment, that they will teach when they return to their home institution. Fellows then travel to Israel and embark on a 10-day study tour that includes site visits and encounters with Jewish and Arab intellectuals, politicians and community leaders. (Please note: The Israel portion is contingent on travel safety conditions and university travel guidelines at the time of the program.) The Summer Institute fellowship is a biennial program (offered on alternating years).
Do you live and teach in one of the Abraham Accord countries? Thanks to a generous donor, we can offer special consideration to Abraham Accord country faculty who grew up in the Middle East or North Africa.
