The research team of the ERC-funded INWOOD project is pleased to announce the call for papers for a conference that will take place at the University of Turin on 6-8 July 2027.
The international conference “A World of a Thousand Cuts: Forests, Wood, and Industrialisation across the Globe in the 19th and 20th Centuries”, organised by the research team of the ERC-funded project “Industrial Wood: Industrialisation as Seen from the Forests (1870-1914)”, seeks to investigate intersections between the process of industrialisation and forest exploitation in the 19th and 20th centuries in a global context.
The conference’s aim is to place the interconnections between industrialisation and forestry into the global context without losing sight of historical, geographical, and regional specificities, informed by political dynamics, economic interests, property relations, and colonial power. We welcome contributions from scholars in the humanities and social sciences interested in the themes related to forests, wood, and industrialisation to participate in an interdisciplinary discussion that would instigate comparative reflections.
