Since our last action alert about the Oklahoma social studies standards revision, the Oklahoma State Supreme Court set aside the 2025 standards draft, approved in April, in response to a suit brought by parents of Oklahoma students. The court ruled that the standards revision process under previous superintendent Ryan Walters had violated the Open Meeting Act. The Oklahoma State Department of Education, under the current superintendent Lindel Fields, released a newly revised social studies standards document on January 29, 2026 and is currently accepting public comments on the standards until Wednesday, February 18, 2026. You may find the revised standards and link to the comment form on the Oklahoma Department of Education’s website. The AHA submitted comments on February 18 responding to the revised standards documents.
