A coalition of organizations including the AHA has sent a letter to the Virginia Board of Education requesting a one-year delay in the implementation of the new History and Social Science Standards of Learning (SOLs). The requested delay would “[provide] Virginia teachers and leaders adequate time to develop resources and conduct appropriate professional development to ensure consistency, fidelity, and the highest quality instruction our students deserve,” the letter stated, noting that instructional guides for the new SOLs, which are supposed to be implemented in the 2025–26 school year, had not been released yet.
