AHA in the News

The AHA’s 2024 report, American Lesson Plan: Teaching US History in Secondary Schools, was featured in an op-ed for The Hill about the need for civic education in the US by Colleen Shogan, former archivist of the United States, and John Bridgeland, More Perfect CEO and former White House Domestic Policy Council director. “We mustn’t shy away from the study of American history, despite loud voices claiming the discipline has fallen victim to political indoctrination and ideological excess,” wrote Shogan and Bridgeland, citing the report’s findings that “history teachers overwhelmingly prefer nonpartisan sources for their classes . . . . The polarizing national narrative is out of touch with the reality on the ground.”
