As part of the our ongoing work to support high quality history instruction in K–12 education, the AHA submitted public comments on Wyoming’s proposed 2026 Social Studies Standards. Drawing on our Criteria for Standards in History/Social Studies/Social Sciences and research on how teachers use state standards, we offered concrete suggestions to strengthen the progression of history and civics learning across grade levels, provide teachers with useful guidance on historical content, expand opportunities for historical inquiry and media literacy, and more fully integrate Wyoming and Indigenous history. The comments are part of the AHA’s broader State History Standards Support initiative, which brings historians’ disciplinary expertise and research on history education into standards revision processes across the country.
