AHA members Linda K. Kerber (Univ. of Iowa) and David W. Blight (Yale Univ.) co-authored an op-ed for the Des Moines Register protesting the Iowa legislature’s planned closure of the state historical society. “We demand reconsideration of this planned closure in the name of freedom of access to historical knowledge for Iowans, and indeed, the integrity of history itself at this moment in the United States when it is under assault,” they wrote. “These records were donated to State Historical Society of Iowa with the understanding that the state of Iowa would provide reliable stewardship of these irreplaceable materials.”
