AHA director of teaching and learning Brendan Gillis was interviewed for an article about new AI-generated “history influencers” producing video content for social media. “Any technology or tool that can help engage wider audiences and younger audiences in learning about the past can be really valuable,” Gillis said, but AI uses “other material that it has been trained on to fill in the gaps, and that can lead to mistakes and biases.” Gillis went on to say he hopes that people, students especially, are “learning the skills to differentiate between strong, evidence-based material and some of the AI slop that’s out there.” Last year, the AHA created Guiding Principles for Artificial Intelligence in History Education.
