Purpose: This ad hoc committee will explore the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) tools for historical research and publication. Based on its assessment of this evolving landscape, the committee will propose guidelines or professional standards to address the practical and ethical consequences of the ready availability of large language models, deep neural networks, and other machine learning tools. This process might either include or culminate in recommendations for sessions at the AHA annual meeting.
