Established: 2025 (term of 1 year, renewable)

Purpose: To provide ideas and resources to guide the Association’s efforts to support the protection of academic freedom

Membership: Up to 9 members. Committee members are appointed by the AHA president and are chosen to represent different types of institutions, including K–12 education, public history and museums, university faculty, and other scholars and practitioners with relevant expertise in advocacy on the local or national level or in the history of academic freedom and free speech.

Assignment to Division: Reports directly to the Council and works with appropriate divisions and committees on specific issues
