Welcome, Historians: An AHA Orientation for New MA & PhD Students
AHA Member Engagement and Orientations
Tuesday, October 13, 2–3:15 p.m. ET
This October, the American Historical Association will welcome new history graduate students to the history community with a free online orientation to the historical discipline.
We’ll explore how the historical discipline works, where historical scholarship happens, what professional organizations like the AHA do, and the many places historians work. A panel discussion featuring experienced graduate students, an early-career historian, and a faculty member who serves as a director of graduate studies will offer perspectives on making the most of graduate school—from what students wish they’d known when they started to how to build relationships, find community, and make the most of the opportunities available to them. We’ll also offer a tour of practical AHA resources for research, teaching, professional development, networking, career exploration, and more.
This free online event is designed primarily for students beginning MA and PhD programs in history, but continuing graduate students, students in adjacent disciplines, and anyone else who would benefit from learning more about the historical discipline are also welcome.
