Event Description
The American Historical Association (AHA) will host a Congressional Briefing offering historical perspectives on US-Africa relations. The briefing will take place on Tuesday, July 14, at 9:00 a.m. ET in Rayburn House Office Building Room 2075. Panelists David Ekbladh (Tufts Univ.), Leigh Gardner (London School of Economics), and Christopher Tounsel (Univ. of Washington) will discuss how US economic and diplomatic policy in Africa has evolved over time, placing it in the wider context of global development. Dane Kennedy (George Washington Univ.) will serve as moderator.
A breakfast spread and coffee will be served.
The AHA’s Congressional Briefings series seeks to provide Congressional staff members, journalists, and other members of the policy community with the historical context essential to understanding contemporary issues. The sessions are strictly nonpartisan and avoid advancing particular policy prescriptions or legislative agendas.
The AHA is grateful to the London School of Economics and Political Science for their sponsorship of this briefing.
