Event Description
At the present moment in time, history faculty at small liberal arts colleges—like historians everywhere—face a daunting array of challenges in the classroom, but they also continue to do exciting and inspirational work with students. In this hour-long webinar, a group of historians from SLACs will discuss how they’re trying to meet the present moment, touching on themes that range from political challenges to new technologies to enrollment issues. What aspects of our pedagogy give us strength in trying times? What new challenges and opportunities face us today? Co-sponsored by the AHA’s Working Group on Small Liberal Arts Colleges, this webinar is part of a larger effort to build community among SLAC faculty, to create new venues for the discussion of issues facing historians at liberal arts colleges, and to bring the work of SLAC faculty to the attention of the wider historical community.
Moderated by Edward Cohn (Grinnell Coll.), this event features Hannah Ewing (Rollins Coll.), Brenna Greer (Wellesley Coll.), and Arnout van der Meer (Colby Coll.). It will take place on Wednesday, October 15, at 3 p.m. ET.
This online event is free and open to the public. To attend, register here. Can’t make it? Sign up anyway and view the recording on the AHA’s YouTube channel after the event.
