Dan David Prize

Established: 2001; redesigned as history prize in 2021. Affiliate Since: 2023.

Statement of Purpose: The Dan David Prize recognizes outstanding scholarship that illuminates the past and seeks to anchor public discourse in a deeper understanding of history. The Dan David Prize awards up to nine prizes of $300,000 each year to outstanding early and midcareer scholars and practitioners in the historical disciplines. The prize is given in recognition of the winners’ contribution to the study of the past and to support their future endeavors.

Annual Meeting: The Dan David Prize has no annual meeting, but key dates include:

  • The winner announcement is usually in March
  • The awards ceremony usually takes place in May
  • The Call for Nominations period usually runs June–October
