The AHA's expanded menu of individual benefits forms only one leg in the tripod of membership. Annual meeting rates
APSA Joint Membership
APSA Joint Membership - Receive a subscription to APSR and PS, access to APSRonline and PSonline, as well as discounts on the annual meeting and other services.
Members of the American Historical Association are able to purchase a one-year JPASS access plan for $99—a 50% discount on the listed rate. JPASS includes unlimited reading and 120 article downloads—not only to the American Historical Review but to more than 1,500 humanities, social science, and science journals in the JSTOR archival collections.
Member Services Program (MSP)
The Member Services Program provides the Association's other publications (that is, in addition to Perspectives on History and the American Historical Review, which are included in regular membership).
MSP category 1: Receive the 7-15 AHA pamphlets produced during the coming year of your membership.
MSP category 2: Receive the current edition of the Directory of History Departments and Organizations (if you sign up between October 1 and April 1) or the next edition as soon as it comes off press in early fall.
MSP category 3: Receive everything in the previous two categories.
For an added fee of $31 paid when joining or renewing, AHA members can gain full access to History Compass, a cutting-edge online journal that publishes peer-reviewed survey articles of the most important research and current thinking from across the entire discipline.
ACLS Humanities E-Book
For an added fee paid when joining or renewing, members can receive electronic access to the ACLS Humanities E-Book, across-searchable, full texts of nearly 2,700 high-quality books in history and the humanities from over 90 university presses, sponsored by the American Council of Learned Societies.
Community College Humanities Association
For an added fee of $35 paid when joining or renewing, AHA members gain full membership in the Community College Humanities Association (CCHA). Membership benefits include publications; the peer-reviewed annual journal, Community College Humanities Review; and the tri-annual newsletter, the Community College Humanist, as well as reduced registration fees at CCHA conferences.
The AHA publishes job advertisements for faculty position openings, fellowships, internships, and other history-related positions on the AHA website and in the job ad pages of Perspectives on History.
Members can communicate and collaborate with other historians in this new online networking opportunity. AHA Communities includes discussion forums, blogs, a directory, and a glossary. Members can form their own communities to discuss specific topics or concerns, as well as create their own blogs.
The AHA sponsors four small grant-in-aid programs that are available to members only. All grants are offered annually and are intended to further research in progress. Preference is given to advanced doctoral students, non-tenured faculty, and unaffiliated scholars. They may be used for travel to a library or archive; microfilming, photography, or photocopying; borrowing or access fees; and similar research expenses.
Choice Reviews Online
AHA members have complimentary access to Choice Reviews Online. A publication of the Association of College & Research Libraries, Choice carries over 7,000 reviews of new scholarly books and electronic resources annually. Its online database holds reviews of over 160,000 titles extending back to September 1988. Choice aims to produce reviews that are “concise, authoritative, and timely.”
Interfolio is an online service that streamlines the application process for both job seekers and search committees by delivering and collecting professional dossiers. The AHA offers complimentary Interfolio services as a member benefit. Job seekers receive a complimentary one-year subscription to use the Interfolio Dossier service. Users can manage multiple letters of recommendation, upload writing samples, choose which materials will be delivered to prospective employers, and create professional portfolios to showcase their work. Search Committees receive a one-year complimentary license to Interfolio ByCommittee, an online service that helps committees easily collect and review applications and ultimately creates a better experience for search committees and job seekers.

Q: What do I receive as a member?
A: As a member you will have access to AHA publications like the American Historical Review and Perspectives on History, as well as to a host of great professional resources including the Directory of History Departments, Historical Organizations, and Historians, and special discounts at the AHA annual meeting.
Q: I do not wish to receive print copies of the AHR or Perspectives of History. What should I do?
A: You may request to stop receiving print copies of the AHR and receive a $12 discount per year when you join or renew by marking the check box on the rate page. To decline print copies of Perspectives, contact the membership department at email@example.com.
Q: I’m going to be moving, and I want to make sure my publications catch up with me. When do I need to let you know my new address?
A: If you’re moving be sure to update your address a few weeks in advance. Visit the Member Information Update page to change your address online, or print and mail the change of address form to the AHA offices.
Q: I signed up to become a member with a joint membership in the APSA and the ACLS Humanities E-Book Project. How do I access my member benefits for these joint memberships?
A: To access joint membership benefits your payment has to first be forwarded to the joint programs. After the joint program has processed your payment, you will receive login instructions by email. You’ll start receiving your benefits from the joint memberships about a month after you sign up. Please note that your joint membership will expire one year from the date received by the joint program.
Q: What are the benefits of creating a non-member user account with the AHA?
A: A nonmember user account gives you free access job ads posted on the AHA’s website. As a nonmember you can register for the meeting, access AHA Communities, and purchase publications and other items online through the AHA Store.
