Accommodations

The 111th annual meeting of the American Historical Association will be held in New York City, at the New York Hilton and Towers and Sheraton New York. Blocks of guest rooms have been reserved at the Hilton, the Sheraton, the Crowne Plaza Manhattan, and the Milford Plaza Ramada. Rates at the Hilton and Crowne Plaza are $91 single and $111 double; rates at the Sheraton are $92 single and $112 double. The Milford Plaza, which is nine blocks from the Hilton, has single and double rooms available for $75 per room, per night. All hotel rates are subject to a 13~ percent tax plus a $2 per night sales and room tax. The rates are available January 1 through 6, 1997.

Reservations must be made in writing on the reservation form, which appears on page 12 of the September issue of Perspectives. (Also see page 11 of the September issue for hotel information.) Additional forms are also available by contacting the Convention Director, AHA, 400 A Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003. E-mail aha@aha.msu.edu. Housing forms must be mailed or sent via fax to the AHA Housing Bureau in New York. (The Housing Bureau's address and fax number appear on the hotel reservation form.) Accessibility requirements (movement impaired, TDD needs, etc.) should be noted, as should any preference for a nonsmoking room. The cutoff date for the AHA's housing block is December 12. After that date, the hotels will continue to process reservations and changes subject to hotel and rate availability.

Requests for rooms will be filled in the order received by hotels, so it is recommended that you contact your hotel of choice early to obtain preferred accommodations. All hotels require a first night's deposit guaranteed with a major credit card or check made payable to the AHA Housing Bureau to hold your reservation. You will receive an acknowledgment from the Housing Bureau and, in most cases, a confirmation from the hotel as well. The confirmation will provide change or cancellation information. A charge will be assessed for the first night if reservations are not canceled prior to arrival.

Preregistering and the Program

The printed Program will reach the membership later this month. The meeting preregistration form is on page 14 of this issue of Perspectives; it will also be included in the Program mailing. Additional copies of the preregistration form are available through AHA headquarters by contacting the Convention Director, AHA, 400 A Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003. E-mail aha@aha.msu.edu.
