The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced a wide range of annual summer seminars and institutes for college and university teachers as well as teachers in K–12 schools. These seminars and institutes are conducted by various institutions and organizations.

The AHA itself is holding a summer institute for college and university teachers entitled "Rethinking America in Global Perspective." Other institutes focus upon such topics as the interaction between indigenous cultures and external influences in southeast Asia, culture in premodern Islam, and cultural encounters in native North America. The seminars for postsecondary teachers include those that will discuss early American microhistories, the Vietnam War, and Southern history.

The seminars and institutes aimed at K–12 teachers range from a discussion of historic maps to the European world economy and from the Lewis and Clark expedition to the coming of the U.S. Civil War.
