New Year’s Eve Events in Washington, DC

Looking for something to do New Year’s Eve? Take advantage of our discounted hotel rates and spend the night in Washington, DC. The capital offers a number of events and parties suited for an array of interests.

firework-in-dcIf you fancy ringing in the New Year at President Lincoln’s Cottage, Freedom’s Eve is the event for you! Freedom’s Eve features live music, an open bar, and dessert buffet. Admission to the event is available by advanced ticket purchase only.

There are also a number of New Year’s Eve dinner cruises in DC. The Odyssey takes guests along the Potomac River, allowing them to enjoy the illuminated Washington, DC, monuments. Tickets can be purchased here. The Spirit of Washington offers a similar cruise and tickets can be purchased online.

The Kennedy Center is hosting A Jazz New Year’s Eve: Straighten Up and Fly Right: The Nat King Cole Tribute with Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli as well as Ray, Motown, and Beyond New Year’s Eve with Ellis Hall. Both precede a New Year’s Eve Grand Foyer Party featuring live entertainment from the Tom Cunningham Orchestra and Lady. Another jazz entertainment option is New Year’s Eve with Monty Alexander at the Blues Alley. The Dupont Circle Hotel is also hosting A White Wonderland Masquerade Ball featuring DJs and special live cello performance by Cyrus Reel; formal attire is encouraged.

Want to stay close to the conference? The Omni Shoreham is host to a New Year’s Eve International Gala featuring an exclusive International Cirque de Soleil Performance. Tickets can be purchased here. The Washington Hilton is also hosting Downtown Countdown DC, one of DC’s largest New Year’s Eve parties.

If you’re looking for a more low-key event, celebrate your New Year’s at the DC Improv. The New Year’s Eve Celebration features comedians Christina Pazsitzky and Tom Segura from Comedy Central, Showtime, Conan, Chelsea Lately, and the acclaimed podcast “Your Mom’s House”. Purchase tickets here.

Finally, there are a number of family-friendly events going on around the city including First Night Alexandria featuring a battle of the bands, fireworks, dance, and food scattered around Alexandria’s Old Town (many of the events are held inside Alexandria’s historic buildings).

The Big Night DC, at the Gaylord National Hotel & Resort on the National Harbor, is one of the of the biggest New Year’s Eve events on the East Coast. The event features five dance floors, fifteen themed party areas, an awesome DJ lineup (featuring Zenbi, DJ Chris Styles, and others), as well as live band music. Tickets can be purchased here.

DC is also not short of themed parties. Project NYE 2014 is a hosting Great Gatsby-themed gala on the Potomac at Sequoia. The Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill features a 2014 New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball hosted by ABC’s Bachelor Chris Bukowski. New Year’s Eve at Zengo is hosting “Destination Rio” a Brazilian Carnival style New Year’s Eve Bash. Furthermore, the International Club of DC hosts a 2014 New Year’s Eve Gala at the Ritz Carlton, the black tie event is well attended every year. Tickets can be purchased here. Finally, the Washington Plaza Hotel is holding its 12th annual New Year’s Eve James Bond 007 Thunderball.
